Lead Hot Cells

Hot Cells provide a shielded environment for the storage and handling of radioactive isotopes such as fluorine-18 or carbon-11 used in Positron Emission Tomography. They protect the operator from the hazards of radiation exposure and can be designed to meet user requirements and needs in production or research facilities.

Production cells are designed to house synthesis units for 18F-FDG - see STACKED PRODUCTION CELL (specification No. 13A).

SHIELDING:

In general 50mm, 75mm or 100mm of lead is used depending on the application but we are able to design shielding of any lead thickness if required.

DIMENSIONS:

Internal dimensions can be tailored to customers requirements and application.

Stacked Production Cell (SPC1)
ACCESS:

Doors can be hinged or mechanically driven depending on customer requirements. A transfer port can be provided to enable product to be extracted easily without opening the main door.

FINISH:

Cells are internally lined with stainless steel and externally clad with stainless steel or plastic coated steel sheet. These finishes provide smooth wipe down surfaces.

SERVICES

Externally switched electric sockets and low temperature lights are provided inside the cells. Provision is made for compressed air and other gases into the cells and waste gases and others out of the cells.

VENTILATION:

An airflow system comprising inlet HEPA filters, exhaust carbon block filters and fans is provided. A spigot is provided for connection to the laboratory fume extraction system.
